For those who dont know, the Corn Exchange are running a Blackball rules singles league on Wednesday evenings.

All players who wish to take part must be at the venue for 7pm this coming Wednesday, August 19th, for the first matches. They must also bring along their £20 registration fee, which must be given to Kev McGuire at the bar.

League rules as follows:
Matches to take place on Wednesday evenings at 7pm and 8pm.

Players may only have one outstanding postponed fixture, ie no more cancellations until the one match not played is pulled in. In other words if you cant make regular Wednesdays dont join!

All matches played to Blackball rules, as played in DCPL Premier Division, best of 10 frames. ie matches stop when one players reaches 6 frames, or it ends 5-5.

Entry fees to join the league are £20 upfront (by week one) followed by match fees of £2 per match due on Wednesdays. All fees to be given to league treasurer Kev McGuire at the bar. No match balls/sheets will be given for any respective match until the fees are paid.

Players will be given a full fixture list once the league line-up is announced on week one.

All players will play each other once during the season with the top players playing off for the main prize money (winner expected to pick up around £350). The rest of the league go into the 'Plate' event for the remaining cash prizes. ie All players have a chance to win something at the end of the season.

The league will start in August and finish in December 2009.

The league is looking for 16 players but can accomodate more if interest arises and, of course, all matches are played at the Corn Exchange.

A website for fixtures/results will be set up on LeagueRepublic.

Week 1 Round-up
Jason Hill
had the perfect start to his campaign winning 6 frames without reply against Dan Usher. One of those nights for Dan where nothing went right so he'll be looking at next week to make amends. Carl Lynch played twice, since he's on holiday next week, and picked up a 6-1 win over Matt Finch before losing 6-2 to Huey Smith. Huey also played twice and got himself a 5-5 draw with Ravi Talwar. A good start for Rob Morgan aswell with a 6-3 victory over Darren Finch while Luke Colliver needs to get back on track after two defeats, 6-3 to Joe Hood and 6-2 to Rav Talwar. Two matches: John Giles v Tom Lammin and Kev McGuire v Craig Lakin were re-arranged for next week whilst Josh Finch had the bye week.

Lets just hope this league gets finished off eventually unlike the snooker singles league which seemed to just stop one week.

Some good games this week. Luke Colliver is looking to get off the mark in a tough match against John Giles. Ravi Talwar and Jason Hill put their good starts from last week on the line against each other and Dan Ussher will be out to get something against Rob Morgan. Matt Finch faces Joe Hood while Josh Finch plays Kev McGuire. Tom Lammin starts his campaign against Darren Finch.

Matches start at 7pm.

Week 2 Round-Up
John Giles
and Tom Lammin played their outstanding match from Week 1 and shared a 5-5 draw. John followed up by getting a second draw, this time against Luke Colliver, John doing well to come back from 3-1 down. Tom, meanwhile, had a comfortable 6-1 win over Darren Finch as did Joe Hood over Matt Finch. Kev McGuire and Craig Lakin played their outstanding fixture with Craig taking the spoils 6-2. Kev then defeated Josh Finch by the same scoreline while Craig had to settle for a 5-5 draw with Huey Smith. Ravi Talwar continues to have a good start with a good 6-2 victory over Jason Hill and Rob Morgan got his second win of the season courtesy of a 6-4 win against Dan Ussher. Week 3 Round-Up
Craig Lakin
is the new leader after a 6-2 victory over Darren Finch. A scappy match saw the scoreline 2-2 after 4 frames before 2 finishes off dry breaks and 2 break-and-dishes meant a comfortable win for Craig. A 5-5 draw with Ravi Talwar means that Joe Hood drops to second place, however it was a good result for Joe after being 5-3 down. Rob Morgan missed the chance to go top after drawing 5-5 with Jason Hill while John Giles picked up his first win of the season with a 6-0 result aganst Bottom of the table Matt Finch. Another first win came to Luke Colliver, courtesy of a 6-2 success over Josh Finch. The Dan Ussher-Tom Lammin match was postponed.

Some late postponements last night but still some good matches. The shock of the night saw Josh Finch defeat Ravi Talwar 6-4 while younger brother Matt Finch also led 3-2 against Kev McGuire before losing bravely 6-4. Kev also played next week's match against John Giles, as John is away, with Kev losing that match 6-2. Craig Lakin stays top with his 6-3 win over Luke Colliver while Darren Finch defeated Dan Ussher 6-1. Dan played his rearranged match from a previous week against Tom Lammin and, despite leading 2-0, eventually lost 6-4.
